Thai E-commerce market to grow higher this year

E-Commerce market in Thailand last year rose by 15 – 20%, prompting the Ministry of Commerce to estimate higher growth in the business can be expected this year.
In preparation to stimulate e-commerce market growth, the ministry plans to introduce at least 4 events to facilitate Thailand’s growth in this sector into the global market.

Director-general of the Department of Business Development, Ms Banjongjit Angsu-Singh, stated that Thailand’s e-commerce market grew by no less than 15 – 20% in 2016.

This amounted to 230 – 240 billion baht in revenues and the potential for growth is very promising, she said.

As such, the ministry will be making every effort to support sustained growth of Thai businesses in this sector in order to facilitate expansion into the global market.

Ms Banjongjit announced that the Department of Business Development has plans to organize 4 events for this purpose which includes a program to develop rural goods and products in the ‘Offline 2 Online’ campaign, the 6th annual ‘Thailand E-Commerce Day’ which will be held in June 2017, a competition for the most outstanding commercial website for electronics and finally the ‘Thailand Online Mega sale 2017’ which has been scheduled for September 2017.

On top of this, the department also has plans to introduce 4 E-Commerce Platform Construction courses which will be held from February to August 2017.

Another event that is also in the cards is the ‘Start to Smart, from Pain to Gain’ campaign which will be held from February 16 – 18 at the Paragon Convention Center to provide ‘start-ups’, SMEs and E-Commerce operators a venue for the exchange of ideas as well as open avenues for potential business negotiations and deals.
